Equivalent Fractions
These math activities are designed to help students understand and identify basic equivalent fractions using visual models. They are aligned to 3rd grade math standards.
What’s included:
• Equivalent Fractions Math Center
• Equivalent Fraction Task Cards
• Equivalent Fractions Worksheets
Equivalent Fractions Math Center
Students match up pairs of cards that show the same fractional part. Guide lines are included on the fraction circles to help students see equivalence. This can be played as a concentration/memory type game or used for a simple matching activity.
Includes 30 equivalent fractions cards – 15 show parts of a whole (circle model) and 15 show parts of a group.
Equivalent Fraction Task Cards
Each card shows two number lines divided into different fractional parts. Students find and record the equivalent fractions. For example, on the card showing a number line with halves and a number line with fourths, students would identify 1/2 and 2/4 as the two fractions that are equivalent. Several cards have more than one correct answer.
Includes 2 differentiated sets – One has the fractions labeled on the number line. The other has the lines but they are not labeled. Includes 16 cards (8 in each set), recording sheet, and answer key.
Equivalent Fractions Worksheet
Students look at each picture representation and circle the equivalent fractions that match it. There are two correct answers for each one, so students will have to understand how fractions of a group can be shown in more than one way. They also must match fraction circles that are equivalent.
