Includes definitions with capitalization rules for both common and proper nouns, plus charts that show examples of common and proper noun people, places, and things.
These are provided in both color and black & white versions.
COMMON AND PROPER NOUNS CENTER
This activity is perfect for your literacy centers! Students sort picture-word cards according to whether they show a common or proper noun. It can also be played as a game in which students take turns choosing cards and trying to be the first to fill their board.
Includes 2 sorting/game boards and 18 picture-word cards.
WORKSHEETS
• Worksheet 1 – Students underline the nouns in each sentence and add them to a chart to show which are common and which are proper.
• Worksheet 2 – Students capitalize proper nouns in sentences, complete sentences by adding common nouns, and highlight common and proper nouns in a paragraph.
COMMON AND PROPER NOUNS QUIZ
This is a 9-question assessment. The first three questions are multiple-choice. The rest of the questions ask students to complete sentences by filling in the blank with either a common or proper noun.
Answer keys are included.
