Haunted House Escape Room 4th Grade

This Haunted House Escape Room is a super fun and engaging way for students to practice math and reading skills! It is a low-prep activity with an exciting theme designed for fourth grade.

Students begin by reading an exciting storyline that sends them to a dark, abandoned house. Once inside, they discover the doors are locked – and the only way to get out is by solving puzzles that will unlock each room.

This activity is perfect for Halloween, but can be used any time of year. Halloween isn’t actually mentioned in any of the activities.

There are 5 rooms to escape in this challenge. Completing a task correctly will reveal the code to unlock the door. If the code is correct, they advance to the next room. If not, try again!

Each escape room has its own reading or math task. These include some review of third grade math skills to strengthen foundations in fourth.

Basic multiplication and division
Multiplying and dividing multiples of 10
Reading non-fiction text
Answering text-based comprehension questions
Calculating elapsed time
Spelling words that contain silent letters

The informational reading passages are about bats and the Salem witch trials.

This escape room has 2 options for unlocking the rooms:

Using a device, students enter the code on a special webpage
Students check their answers against the teacher’s answer key

You can choose whichever option works best for your classroom.

This activity is very easy to implement. There aren’t a bunch of pieces to put together and organize. It allows you to give your students academic tasks wrapped together in a fun themed activity without a lot of teacher prep.
