This idioms charades activity is a great way to add some movement and fun to your figurative language lessons! There are also companion worksheet that can be used for instruction, independent practice, or during centers.
Idioms Charades Game
The game includes 16 cards that each contains a common idiom along with a picture that shows the literal meaning. One student chooses a card and acts it out while the rest of the group tries to guess the idiom.
This activity includes a recording sheet that lists all the idioms with a space to write the student’s name who acted it out.
Idioms Worksheets
This resource includes three different worksheets to build understanding of idioms.
1. Write the Meaning – These worksheets show a picture with the corresponding idiom. Students write the meaning of each phrase.
2. Write the Idiom – Same as above except students read the meaning and write the idiom that goes with it.e
3. Choose 3 Idioms – Students write 3 idioms of their choice, illustrate them, and use them in a sentence.
Answer keys for the worksheets are included.
